How much does a tattoo cost in Valencia in 2026?
The shop minimum in Valencia runs between 50 and 80 € and covers sterile supplies, prepping the area and the initial design. Beyond that you pay by the hour, 80 to 120 €/h. For reference: a small tattoo of 3 to 6 cm comes to 50–150 €, a medium one of 7 to 12 cm to 120–350 €, and a full sleeve between 1,500 and 3,500 € spread over several sessions. Realism and Japanese work are usually priced per session (150–800 €).
What age do you have to be to get a tattoo in the Valencian Community?
Decree 83/2002 (Valencian Government) regulates tattooing, micropigmentation and piercing across the Valencian Community. Its article 18 allows minors to be tattooed provided they request it themselves and their legal guardian gives written consent. In other words: the regional rule sets no numerical age, but it does require written authorization from a parent or guardian. In practice, many Valencia studios apply a stricter policy of their own and will not tattoo anyone under 18 under any circumstances. Ask before you make the trip.
Can I go to the beach after getting a tattoo?
In a city with the Malvarrosa twenty minutes away, this is the question that matters. The general advice is to wait at least 15 days before any serious beach or pool plans. While it heals: no direct sun (it irritates the skin and makes you lose ink), no long dips in the sea or the pool, and watch out for sweat, which in a Valencian summer makes healing harder. A short swim with a protective patch is low risk; a whole afternoon in the water is not. Get tattooed in June and you can forget the Malvarrosa until July.
How do I know a Valencia tattoo studio is licensed and safe?
Seven checks: 1) the municipal health authorization from the Ajuntament de València (Valencia City Council) on display. 2) Staff holding a higher vocational qualification in aesthetics (Técnico Superior en Estética) or a hygiene and health course accredited by the Conselleria de Sanitat (the Valencian health department), plus hepatitis B and tetanus vaccination. 3) A steam autoclave with its maintenance log, and single-use needles, bagged and unsealed in front of you. 4) A written aftercare protocol: it is a legal obligation, not a nice touch. 5) A real portfolio that matches the style you want. 6) A closed quote in writing. 7) Read the reviews looking for patterns (waits, attitude, touch-ups), not the average score.
Can an old tattoo be covered up?
Yes, and it is routine work in Valencia. A cover-up needs a custom design and heavier ink coverage; if the original tattoo is very dark, the usual route is one to three laser sessions first to lighten it. It costs more than a new tattoo of the same size. Calipso, Arte Salvaje and Obsidian are the studios in this guide that do it regularly.
How much does laser tattoo removal cost in Valencia?
Valencia has a laser market of its own, and a competitive one. Published prices per session sit around 50 € up to 2×2 cm, 65 € up to 5×5 cm and 80 € up to 10×10 cm. Full removal averages roughly 400 €, though the number of sessions depends on the color of the ink, how old it is and where it sits on the body. The first consultation is usually free.
Do I need an appointment or can I just walk in?
It depends on the studio. Calipso and Manitatuz take walk-ins and you can leave tattooed the same day, which is rare. Noble Art, La Piratería and Etther Museum work by appointment, and their busiest artists can be weeks out. For large realism or Japanese pieces there is always a design consultation first.
Which neighborhood in Valencia has the most tattoo studios?
Ciutat Vella has the highest concentration: the Barrio del Carmen and the streets around the Plaza Redonda hold Tatuarte, Manitatuz and Drac Tattoo within a few minutes' walk of one another. Then come L'Eixample and Russafa (Noble Art), Benimaclet (La Piratería) and Extramurs (No Land). If you are staying in the center, three of the top 10 studios are less than a kilometer away.
