The studio

Tatuarte opened in 1984, when tattooing in Spain still lived at the margins. It is the oldest tattoo studio in Valencia and one of the longest-running in the country, with three generations of tattooists passing through the same premises on Plaça dels Furs, at the foot of the Torres de Serranos and deep in the Barrio del Carmen.

Forty years buy a great deal of craft, and it shows above all in the Japanese work. Irezumi and large-format pieces, full arms, backs and legs, are its natural ground, and experience counts for more there than in any other style, because these are compositions thought out across whole areas of the body and executed over many sessions.

The team numbers eight tattooists, one of whom has close to forty years behind the machine. Beyond Japanese they cover fine line, blackwork, color, realism, micro-realism and old school, and they also pierce and sell body jewelry.

What customers repeat most is that they listen and take their time before designing, and the declared obsession with hygiene. Against it: the old town is difficult for parking and the veteran artists keep tight schedules.
