The studio

Drac Tattoo opened in 2002 on Carrer de Guillem de Castro, the ring road skirting the Barrio del Carmen, and it is still there more than twenty years later. A small studio, the kind built on customers who return, with no interest in putting on a show.

The strength of its lead tattooist, according to customers, is translation: you arrive with a vague idea, explain it, and get it back as a drawing. The work is freehand and made to order, never from a catalog.

Piercing is handled by a professional with a nursing degree, an unusual detail that shows in what the reviews repeat most: sterilization and hygiene. Together with value for money, those are the two constants of its write-ups.

Against it: being small, there is less stylistic range than at the bigger names on the list, and the website is dated, which makes it hard to see recent work before you go. Instagram is the better bet for that.
