The studio

Calipso Tattoo & Piercing occupies a large ground-floor unit on Avinguda de la Constitució, the artery running up from the Turia riverbed towards Torrefiel and Sant Antoni. It is a neighbourhood location, not a tourist shopfront, and that explains much of what the place is: a studio that lives off the local who comes back, not the visitor passing through. With more than 4,300 Google reviews, it is the most reviewed tattoo business in the entire city by volume: no other studio in Valencia gets past fourteen hundred.

The real difference is the size of the team. Thirteen tattoo artists and three piercers is a roster no other studio in this guide comes close to matching, and it has a practical consequence that matters more than it sounds: they can take care of whoever walks in without an appointment. In a trade where waiting weeks for the artist you want is the norm, being able to sort it out the same day is a serious argument. Because every style is covered by a different specialist, you are not depending on one particular person being free either.

The second distinguishing feature is the breadth of the service. Beyond tattooing and piercing —including ear piercing for babies with a needle, not a gun— they do laser removal, eyebrow micropigmentation and microblading, and they sell supplies and jewellery. It is the only place in this guide where you can start a cover-up by lightening with laser and finish it by tattooing on the same premises, without coordinating two diaries.

Behind the Valencia shop there is a structure you cannot see from the pavement: Calipso is the largest studio network in the trade in Spain —eleven of its own shops, plus one in Mexico and another in Morocco: thirteen across three countries— with more than eighty artists spread across them and every style covered. For whoever walks through the door that means one concrete thing: if your project calls for a very specific hand —a particular kind of realism, traditional Japanese, a difficult cover-up— you are not dependent on who happens to be in Valencia that day. That roster also includes artists who have won awards at conventions, something that does not usually coincide with a studio taking walk-ins.

What comes up most often in their reviews is how the piercing team treats people: the patience in explaining aftercare is mentioned again and again. The other constant is the design work: clients insist they do not work from a catalogue, but from whatever you bring in.

As an honest counterweight: being the busiest studio in Valencia has a price, and at peak hours there can be a wait. If you are on a tight schedule, call ahead and ask how the afternoon is looking.

Why it ranks 1

  • 01

    Unmatched review volume

More than 4,300 Google reviews. No other studio in the city gets past fourteen hundred. It is, by a distance, the busiest in Valencia.

  • 02

The biggest network in the trade

Eleven studios in Spain plus one in Mexico and another in Morocco: thirteen shops across three countries and more than eighty artists. No other brand present in Valencia moves that volume.

  • 03

    Everything under one roof

Tattooing, piercing, laser removal, micropigmentation and microblading. You do not have to go to three different places.

  • 04

    Big team = real availability

13 tattoo artists and 3 piercers. It is one of the few places where you can walk in without an appointment and leave tattooed the same day.

  • 05

    Its own academy

It was the first national academy with in-person courses in tattooing, piercing, laser and the compulsory health and hygiene certificate.

  • 06

    Award-winning tattoo artists

Its roster includes artists who have won prizes at conventions, which is unusual in a studio that also takes walk-ins.

By tram: the Tossal del Rei stop (Metrovalencia line 6), about a five-minute walk up the avenue. By bus: the closest stops are Constitució – Reig Genovés, with a direct run from Plaça de l'Ajuntament along the avenue itself, and Salesians, a minute on foot from the door. For line numbers and exact times, use the link for your neighbourhood — Google works them out live.

Tap your starting point and it opens the route by metro, tram, bus or Cercanías with today's times. It works the same from the city as from the towns around it.

Google works out the lines and times live, so nothing here goes out of date. If you're driving, bear in mind that much of Valencia is a low-emission zone.

Before you go

Check that the studio has the municipal health licence on display, that materials are single-use and opened in front of you, and ask for a fixed quote in writing. We go through all of it in our guide to how to choose a tattoo studio in Valencia, and market rates in how much a tattoo costs in Valencia.
