The studio

No Land opened in April 2016, first on Calle Lepanto and today on Gran Via de Ferran el Catòlic, next to the Botanical Garden, and it works more like a cultural space than a conventional studio. It puts on exhibitions, launches and events, has its own shop selling merchandise by its artists, and an interior somewhere between the Victorian and Twin Peaks that you could not mistake for anywhere else.

Its strength is the human catalog: some twenty artists between residents and collaborators, plus the international guests who rotate through by season. With that spread there is almost always someone doing exactly what you are after, whether old school, neo-traditional, blackwork, dotwork, Japanese, kawaii, lettering or blackout.

Its founder has been tattooing for around twenty-two years, and much of the resident team comes out of the Facultad de Bellas Artes de València, with paths running through drawing, woodcut and spells outside Spain. That training shows in the quality of the draftsmanship, which is what people comment on most.

With twenty artists, the obvious advice: look through portfolios before booking, because the standard is high but the styles are wildly different from one another. And if a guest artist interests you, ask about dates, since they pass through for short stretches.
